Our integrated solutions combine electrical engineering, energy technology and sustainability to create reliable, efficient and future-proof energy systems.

Client:
PLUS supermarket

Project location:
Koewacht, in the Dutch province of Zeeland.

Objective:
To become more sustainable through renewable energy generation.

320 solar panels installed as part of a large-scale sustainability programme across Zeeuws-Vlaanderen

In early 2024, the PLUS supermarket in Koewacht took an important step towards a more sustainable future. Together with installation partner NOVECTRA, 320 solar panels were installed on the supermarket’s roof, helping the store make better use of its available rooftop space to generate renewable energy.

The installation in Koewacht was part of a much larger sustainability initiative across Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. In total, 2,100 solar panels were installed across five PLUS and Coop supermarkets, helping the stores reduce their reliance on conventional energy and become more energy efficient.

Making better use of existing space

For supermarkets, energy efficiency is an important part of operating more sustainably. At the same time, their large rooftops offer valuable space for generating renewable energy.

The project at PLUS Koewacht brought these two opportunities together. By installing 320 solar panels on the roof, the supermarket can generate renewable electricity directly at the location where it is needed.

For NOVECTRA, projects like this are about more than installing solar panels. They require careful preparation and coordination to ensure that the installation fits seamlessly into an operational retail environment.

Part of a larger regional project

The Koewacht installation was one of five supermarket locations included in the wider sustainability programme. Across the different PLUS and Coop stores in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, a total of 2,100 solar panels were installed.

Working across multiple locations required a consistent approach, while also taking into account the specific characteristics of each individual supermarket. Every roof, installation and site comes with its own practical and technical considerations.

The result is a project that combines scale with a local impact: five supermarkets are now making better use of their rooftops to generate renewable energy.

From installation to long-term impact

The installation at PLUS Koewacht demonstrates how existing commercial buildings can play an important role in the energy transition.

Rather than requiring additional land, rooftop solar makes use of space that is already available. For supermarkets with large roof areas and significant electricity consumption, this can be an effective way to take concrete steps towards greater energy efficiency and renewable energy generation.

For NOVECTRA, the project is another example of how collaboration with businesses can turn sustainability ambitions into practical solutions. From planning and technical preparation through to installation and completion, our team works alongside clients to deliver reliable energy solutions that are built around their specific needs.
